There was a guy in my residence in university who I'm sure most only knew as "Friendo", which had been shortened from "Friend o'Boofus", which came from "Boofus", the guy on my floor who he hung out with.     Come to think of it, I briefly obtained a nickname in a similar fashion: I hung out with a guy whose roommate looked like a wrestler named Glory, so he became Power after the wrestler's tag-team partner, and it ricocheted to me becoming The Warlord from a one-off team-up.
